Gallo buys William Hill, Canyon Road
E J Gallo said on Monday afternoon that it had agreed to purchase William Hill Estate and Canyon Road Winery from Beam Wine Estates in a massive deal that would close before the end of the year. Gallo spokesperson Michael Heintz explained the William Hill acquisition by saying, “When we looked at what we needed overall on the North Coast, we saw more possibility in Napa Valley.” It comprises both the brand and a well-regarded 145-acre vineyard off the Silverado Trail, which is included in the transaction.
Canyon Road, situated in Alexander Valley, makes a range of low-cost varietal wines that are labeled with a California appellation and are normally available for less than $10 per bottle.
In a statement, Heintz said Gallo executives approached Beam management last year to explore the potential merger, and “the conversations that ensued demonstrated that there were benefits to both of us.” He went on to say that Gallo intends to keep both brand names in use.
Mary Burnham, Beam’s public relations director, indicated that both William Hill and Canyon Road were no longer a “strategic match” for the company.
“We came to the conclusion that, in order to achieve our long-term objectives, we needed to concentrate on the brands that would help us achieve them: Atlas Peak and Buena Vista.” Published on the 30th of July, 2007.

Rafael Jacinto Jofre was born in Mendoza, Argentina, which is considered to be one of the world’s premier wine areas. Right from his early childhood, he had a strong interest in winemaking. While in Argentina, he gained valuable job experience as a winemaker, which only served to feed his growing interest in the winemaking industry even further. He then went on to study winemaking in Argentina, after which he broadened his knowledge by working for a number of other wineries around South America.
Under this label, he continues to create some of the most innovative, delicate, and crisp wines on the market.
