That’s exactly what a typical, dry Lambrusco has to offer. However, because of the high demand for Labrusco wine in Europe and the United States, the word Lambrusco has become synonymous with a sweet, strawberry-tinged, quaffable juice.

There are, in fact, no less than ten distinct varieties of the grape, as well as a handful of rare DOCs that have been formed particularly to highlight the distinctive characteristics of some of the greatest of them.

Fruit-driven low-ABV sparkling wine from northern Italy is great for pairing with a range of dishes and may accompany you from breakfast through aperitivo hour in the evenings. Lambrusco is a red wine from Italy that is slightly sparkling (frizzante), and its origins may be traced back to the Etruscan and Roman periods.

  • The grape used to produce the wine is also known as lambrusco, and it is derived from the same name as the wine it produces.
  • The charmat (martinotti) technique, which is used to make prosecco, is most usually employed to produce lambrusco wines in a slightly sparkling (frizzante) style, which is the most popular type.
  • Despite the fact that red lambrusco is by far the most popular style, the wine may also be found in rosé form.
  • Lambrusco wines, while sparkling, tend to be on the effervescent and frothy side of the sparkling wine range, and may be found in a variety of styles ranging from bone-dry to quite sweet in sweetness.
  • Lambrusco wines pair well with a wide range of dishes and cuisines because of its crisp acidity, fruit forwardness, and relatively low alcohol content.

Pizza, chicken dishes, and fruit-based desserts are some of the most typical food pairings for this wine, but it is also wonderful with charcuterie boards, hard cheeses, and a variety of tacos. Take a look at these eight bottles that you’ll want to serve with your next dinner.

Otello Lambrusco Sparkling Red Wine

A sparkling red wine that is both influenced by tradition and modernized for today’s tastes.

ABOUT OTELLO

Our grandpa, Otello, had a strong desire to produce high-quality Lumbrusco that would be enjoyed by everybody. The rest of the world is now catching up with us. Almost eighty years later, our family business is still dedicated to producing Lambrusco that is versatile enough to be drunk on its own, chilled or over ice, or as a cocktail, and may be served in whatever style of glass you like.

OUR MISSION

That guy, who started it all, is honored with this homage.

EVERYONE LOVES AN ORIGIN STORY

When our grandpa, Otello Ceci, owned a modest trattoria, he was known for serving his Lambrusco to the customers.

THE NEW STANDARD, FOR A NEW GENERATION

Lambrusco was created as a tribute to Otello Ceci and as a means of reintroducing Lambrusco to the globe.

THE WINE

The traditional Charmat process is used to create Otello taverna. As a result, a dry, terroir-driven wine with a delicate, refreshing effervescence emerges from the process.

WHERE IT COMES FROM

When it comes to selecting the proper grapes for our Lambrusco, we collaborate with small, local producers. Over the years, we’ve built a network of over 400 locations that allow us to acquire a complex blend of flavors that are authentic to our hometown of Parma.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Otello Ceci was the proprietor of a well-known trattoria in Parma, Italy. He offered regional delicacies such as Parmesan-Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma at the establishment. His wine, on the other hand, was the star of the show. Tradition should be respected, but it should never be bound by it. Be ferociously passionate while while being equally generous. Creativity, uniqueness, and a fresh point of view are highly valued, and above all, never, ever stop inventing. These were the values by which our great grandfather Otello lived.

We realized from an early age that this was our vocation.

Otello’s tenacity serves as an example for us.

To approach things in a new way.

THE WINE

Owner of a popular trattoria in Parma, Italy, Otello Ceci was an adored character. Local delicacies like as Parmesan-Reggiano cheese and Prosciutto di Parma were offered at the establishment. The star of the event, though, was his wine. Traditional values should be respected, but they should never be imposed upon you. Be ferociously passionate while yet being generous in equal measure. Consider the importance of innovation, uniqueness, and a fresh point of view, and, more than anything, don’t stop inventing ever!

Eighty years later, we, the third generation of the Ceci family, are devoted to continuing his legacy of authenticity, superiority, and creativity.

Even as children, we knew this was our destiny. It was never necessary to inform us. Otello’s tenacity serves as an example for us. We make an effort to improve ourselves on a daily basis. To approach things in a new way. To be unconventional. How to Approach Red in a Novel Way

PAIRINGS

Combine with other famous Parma meals such as Parmesan Reggiano cheese or prosciutto for a complete meal. Our Lambrusco is also a fantastic pairing with pizza, as you can see below.

Thoughts Is it true that Parkling wine was exclusively available in white? If you haven’t had the pleasure of sipping Lambrusco wine, you’re missing out. Lambrusco is a light and effervescent sparkling wine that is produced using the same winemaking techniques as other sparkling wines. Because the grape skins are left on throughout the winemaking process, Lambrusco is available in a variety of reddish colours ranging from pale pink to deep crimson. The wine is acidic and refreshing (similar to Prosecco), but it also has tannic, red wine characteristics.

As a result of reading this article, you will understand why we adore Lambrusco and why it is the ideal companion for an afternoon picnic with charcuterie or a cosy evening at home with a glass of pizza.

In addition, we examine the numerous various kinds of wine produced by the Lambrusco vine.

What Is Lambrusco Wine?

Thoughts What if parkling wine was only available in one color? If you haven’t had the pleasure of sipping Lambrusco wine, you’ve missed out on something special. Lambrusco is a light and bubbly sparkling wine that is produced using the same winemaking techniques as other sparkling wine. It is possible that Lambrusco’s crimson colours arise from the grape skins being left on during processing. Lambrusco may range in color from lovely pink to deep red. The wine is acidic and refreshing (similar to Prosecco), but it also has tannic and red wine characteristics.

As a result of reading this essay, you will understand why we adore Lambrusco and why it is the ideal companion for an afternoon picnic with charcuterie or a cosy evening at home with a pizza.

We’ll walk you through everything, from how it tastes to where it’s grown to how to serve it properly. Also covered are the numerous diverse kinds of wine produced by the Lambrusco vine.

  • There is Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Montericco, and Lambrusco Salamino, but there is also Lambrusco di Sorbara, and there is also Lambrusco di Sorbara.

Due to the fact that each grape variety has a distinct flavor character, lambrusco wine is a blend of several different grape varietals. With strong levels of acidity, Lambrusco is similar to other Italian sparkling wines (such as our buddy Prosecco), while having low to medium alcohol levels (about 10-11.5 percent alcohol by volume). Lambrusco, on the other hand, contains greater amounts of tannins than other wines since the red grape skins are left intact during the production process.

Where Is Lambrusco Wine Produced?

The majority of Lambrusco is produced in northern Italy, with a few (very small) vineyards in Australia and Argentina completing the picture. Emilia-Romagna is the wine’s birthplace, and it is a lovely region that is also known for Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar, and Prosciutto di Parma. It’s like the entire region is begging to be transformed into a lavish picnic!

Types of Lambrusco Wine

Lambrusco is available in a number of different kinds, each with its own particular flavor and flair. Here are a few famous examples that illustrate my point.

Lambrusco Salamino

Typically, semisecco (semi-sweet) or dolce Lambrusco are the styles of Lambrusco that are created (sweet). With a rich crimson hue and red fruit tastes, this wine is a standout.

Lambrusco di Sorbara

Sorbara, in contrast to Salamino, is both light in color and flavor. SORBARA is distinguished by delicate scents and flowery taste notes, as well as a pale pink tint. It is a secco Lambrusco (dry wine), making it an excellent choice for those who do not enjoy sweet sparkling wines.

Lambrusco Grasparossa

For those who prefer strong, richly colored wines with high tannin content, Grasparossa is the wine for you. Tastes like blackcurrants and other rich fruit tastes, which are characteristic to lambruscos in this region.

Lambrusco Mantovano

For those who prefer strong, richly colored wines with high tannin content, Grasparossa is the wine to try. Blackcurrants and other rich fruit tastes are prominent in the flavor profile of this Lambrusco.

How Is Lambrusco Wine Made?

Lambrusco is manufactured in the same manner as other sparkling wines are made: by fermenting grape must. Red grape skins, on the other hand, are not removed during the maturing process, as is the case with white sparkling wines. The contact with the skins imparts a deep crimson color to the wine as well as a high level of tannic acidity. Once this straightforward wine has been made, the winemaker will need to make it fizzy by subjecting it to a second fermentation. The Charmat technique, in which the sugar and yeast are fed to the wine in a huge metal tank, is the most often used way for accomplishing this.

Following that, the winemaker adds a sweet wine mixture known as a dosage, which sweetens the wine while also adjusting the acidity level.

It will be more common for sweeter types to have a larger dose, and less common for dry styles.

Lambrusco wines produced using this type of winemaking are not as bubbly as certain sparkling wines, such as Cava or Champagne, but they are nevertheless enjoyable. Instead, they’re semi-sparkling, or frizzante in Italian, which means “half-sparkling.”

What Does Lambrusco Wine Taste Like?

While dry Lambruscos, such as Lambrusco di Sorbara, are characterized by floral notes such of violets and orange flower, sweeter varieties, such as Lambrusco Salamino, are characterized by distinct cherry flavor notes. However, if you’re drinking Lambrusco for the first time and aren’t sure what kind it is, you may anticipate to experience berry tastes such as strawberry and blackcurrant, if you’re not familiar with the grape. There may also be hints of rhubarb and perhaps potting dirt in the aroma.

How to Serve Lambrusco Wine

When it comes to reliable matching possibilities, Look to the cuisine of Lambrusco’s native Italy for inspiration. Lambrusco has a strong acidity, which makes it an excellent choice for pairing with creamy prosciutto. The fresh, zingy tastes cut straight through the fat and won’t overpower the intensely cured meat that you’re serving. Maintaining the meaty theme, a charcuterie platter is another excellent choice for serving with Lambrusco. Just make sure you use Italian meats such as asfinocchiona or veal chops (fennel salami).

  • Alternatively, go for something straightforward like pizza and Lambrusco – the two are made to be together.
  • The ideal temperature ranges between 45 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit, so place it in the refrigerator for an hour or two before serving, then remove it from the fridge 15 minutes before serving.
  • A universal wine glass is ideal, but even a basic white wine glass can suffice in this situation.
  • As you can see, this easy-to-drink wine is meant to be enjoyed with friends and family over lunch.
  • As a result of the low alcohol concentration, you may drink one or two glasses and yet have enough energy to go through the remainder of the day.

Paint the Town Red

Lambrusco is a fantastic choice for anybody wishing to spice up their sparkling wine collection with a little something different. Not only is this bubbly red low in alcohol and high in acidity, but it also comes in a variety of styles to experiment with. Even if some wine connoisseurs have turned their backs on Lambrusco, you should give this Italian horse a try nevertheless. Just keep in mind that you are not required to drink it sweet. There are drier styles available on the market; you may just have to look a little harder for them.
