Are you putting together a cheese board for a wine tasting? Follow this straightforward, down-to-earth approach to get started mixing cheese, charcuterie, and other nibbles with wine! You guys are going to love the ideas I’ve come up with for unusual charcuterie boards (and even some ideas for jarcuterie and aHalloween charcuterie board). Yes, I understand! My affection for them is unwavering.

Of course, I’ll be styling and photographing them, as well as devouring them. A cheese board, on the other hand, is something I’ll never create twice. I’m constantly on the lookout for new and interesting items to include on my boards, as well as innovative methods to mix the foods with beverages.

What cheese for a Cheese Board for Wine Tasting?

For this board, I chose a flight of cheddar cheeses rather than attempting to overcome cheese selection paralysis. The same way that there are tiny variances between different kinds of wine, there are subtle differences between different varieties of cheese. Hard cheeses, such as cheddar, are often the most straightforward to pair with wine, and cheddar is a good match for both white and red wines alike. cheese combines very well with oaky Chardonnays as well as Syrahs and Malbecs, to name a few examples.

Creating a Cheddar flight for a Wine and Cheese Party:

For my cheese flight, I selected three cheddars from Black Creek Cheeses, which are as follows:

What else should I include on a Cheese Board for Wine Tasting?

Because I took a wine appreciation course in culinary school and still have my GIANT textbook, you’re in luck! There were several excellent suggestions for snack and wine pairings for my wine and cheese board as a result of this article, including:

  • Fruits like strawberries and chocolate chip cookies mix well with red wines like syrah or cabernet sauvignon (melomakarona, or Greek honey biscuits, would also be delicious as a sweet treat here!). The following foods and wines go well together: candied pecans or walnuts with riesling
  • Pepperoni with syrah
  • Sweet potato chips with moscato
  • White chocolate with champagne
  • Prosciutto with pinot noir
  • Castelvetrano olives with sauvignon blanc
  • Smoked salmon with sauvignon blanc.

Tips for a successful Cheese Board for Wine Tasting:

  • While I frequently appreciate adding honey, jam, or any other form of spread to a fine cheese plate, I prefer to restrict my snack board to finger foods, such as phyllo cup appetizers, for a gathering with an active wine tasting. In other words, items you can pick up and pop into your mouth with one hand (allowing your wine glass to remain in the other hand!). There is no honey that has to be spread. There are no pistachios that need to be cracked
  • When putting together a cheese plate to serve with wine, I like to include a variety of savory and sweet nibbles. Some people have a sweet craving when they drink wine, while others have a savory tooth when they drink wine. You may also check out my New Year’s Eve finger foodsboard. Just as I enjoy a combination of sweet and savory flavors, I also enjoy a combination of crunchy and soft textures. After that, I enjoy a variety of crackers for the crunch element, followed by soft fruit like grapes and strawberries. If you are not a wine drinker, or if you have a visitor who is not a wine drinker, serve them a cocktail or mocktail made with myrosemary simple syrup instead. It is going to go perfectly with everything on this board
  • In fact, this board would be fantastic as part of a brunch buffet! I also have a full page dedicated to brunch ideas to help you balance out the remainder of your buffet. Also, don’t forget to try your hand at making bacon from scratch.
