Crowd Information

It has already been noted that the FoodWine Festival is extremely popular among both visitors and residents. The fact that the people congregate mostly at World Showcase, near the FoodWine vendors, makes it an unusual event from a crowd standpoint. This implies that the majority of the attractions at Future World have wait times that are average to below average. So even if you are only visiting EPCOT for the rides, spending time at Future World is not a terrible idea if you have the time. It’s better to arrive at FoodWine early if you want to sample the food and wine (which you should, because it’s fantastic).

Those who arrive around 11 a.m.

According to expectations, weekdays are also somewhat quieter than weekends, when the majority of people come out to enjoy themselves.

Don’t be concerned, with even a small amount of forethought and the use of our Throng Calendar, you can easily escape the rabble and the majority of the crowd.

7 Rookie Mistakes to Avoid at the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival

The International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot is a fan-favorite event that takes place over many months and features delectable cuisines from across the world, as well as unique activities and entertainment in addition to the various food and beverage booths. The experience is fantastic, but it might be overwhelming if you’ve never been to a festival like this before. This year, my husband and I visited Walt Disney World in the early to mid-September timeframe, and we were especially looking forward to visiting the Food and Wine Festival for the first time.

Unfortunately, it turned out that we just did not understand what we did not understand.

I hope that this post will assist you in being more prepared and avoiding some of the rookie mistakes we made on our first trip to the FoodWine Festival, as well as some of the ones we observed other guests making in our immediate vicinity.

Going on a Saturday

This was by far the largest blunder we made. As ardent TouringPlans devotees, we double-checked the calendar of events. We tried our hardest. The projected crowd level was a one out of ten. Unfortunately, the data used to create the calendar is primarily based on attraction wait times, and as a FoodWine novice, it never occurred to me to take into account all of the locals and bachelorette parties (oh, there are so many bachelorette parties.) who would travel to EPCOT on the weekend just to take advantage of the Festival.

The park, on the other hand, was completely crowded with Festival visitors.

We still had a fantastic time and were able to visit four of the booths that we were interested in, but I cannot recommend visiting on a Saturday (or, for that matter, on a Friday or Sunday, for that matter), regardless of how busy the crowd calendar appears to be.

You’ll be grateful to me afterwards.

Not Looking at Menus in Advance

The number of people filling up the sidewalks, checking their Festival passports (a booklet that lists all of the booths and menu items), or strolling up to each booth individually to look through their offers, plainly having done no prior study, is staggering. Prepare ahead of time by reviewing menus before your trip, perhaps reading customer reviews on reliable websites, and making a list of items you want to sample. This will save you both time and headaches. As a result of having a gameplan in place before arriving, you won’t have to fret about figuring everything out on the spot when you get there.

Having Eyes Bigger Than Your Stomach

Given the abundance of delectable options available at the over two dozen booths and hundreds of wonderful foods to pick from, it’s natural to want to taste as much as you possibly can, especially if it’s your first visit. However, it is critical to be aware of one’s own limitations. There’s just so much food you can consume in a single day! Keep this in mind when you conduct your research, and attempt to narrow down your choices to a small number of things. If you’re still hungry, there’s always more food available!

There will always be something else you wish you’d had the opportunity to try, but I suppose that’s how they keep people coming back!

Expecting to Get Ice Water at the Booths

We went to EPCOT towards the conclusion of our vacation at Walt Disney World. Since the weather was still quite hot and muggy, we’d become accustomed to asking for a couple cups of cold water at various counter service spots during the day to help keep us hydrated. Unfortunately, because the FoodWine booths are not permanent dining establishments, they do not have the capability of providing free tap water to customers. Consider that you will either have to wait in line at another dining establishment only to get water, pay for bottled water that is both expensive and bad to the environment, or find drinking fountains to replenish your water bottle.

Bringing Your Whole Group in Line

If you are traveling with a group of more than two adults and you are paying in one transaction, there is no reason why your entire group must stand in line. Several mature adults went up to the same checkout together once; the space was so tight and they took up so much space that no one could get around them to the other cashier or the food pick-up area. It was a bizarre sight to witness. Why? Give one person complete control of the order, and the rest may go find for a bench or table to take up residence.

The roped-off lineups and payment sections are rather narrow, with tight twists, so if you have a group of people, one should wait with the stroller while the other places an order.

If you don’t have to do anything, then don’t do it.

Being Discouraged by a Long Line

The lineups for the majority of the Festival booths will most likely appear to be rather long. Nonetheless, if it is something on your bucket list, don’t let this deter you from getting in line for it. Some booths we almost missed since the lines were so long, but I’m happy we didn’t because we discovered that the lines were really moving rather rapidly in most cases. With their payment and pickup system down to a science, Disney is able to move large groups around the park with relative ease.

Thinking You Can’t Visit the “Regulars”

Many people believe that if they are attending FoodWine for the first time, they should limit their attention to the booths and special items. This is a common misconception. However, there are so many fantastic permanent eating options at EPCOT that you shouldn’t feel deprived of the opportunity to enjoy them as well. I personally prefer doing table service dinners as frequently as I can at Walt Disney World since I believe it is a fantastic opportunity to sit down and relax (in the air conditioning) after a long day at the park.

It was the finest of both worlds in one package!

It is something that every Disney lover should do at least once in their lives.

It is my hope that you would learn from my mistakes and avoid these seven follies in order to have an even more spectacular vacation experience. What are some of the blunders you’ve made or watched during the Food Wine Festival? Please share your thoughts in the comments section!

We may have missed out on several festival activities owing to Covid in the previous year, but Disney has more than made up for it this year with their offerings. In the year 2021, we will be treated to one of the longest-running Epcot Food and Wine Festivals in the world. The event will take place from July 15th through November 20th, 2021, and will be open every day. 129 days of eating and festive fun are ahead of you! Not bad given the very first FoodWine Festival, which took place on September 28th, 1996, only lasted 30 days when it initially opened its doors!

Following its inception, Disney has continued to expand the amount of days the Epcot FoodFestival is open to the public.

  • 2014: September 19th to November 10th (53 days)
  • 2015: September 25th to November 16th (53 days)
  • 2016: September 14th to November 14th (62 days)
  • 2017: September 14th to November 14th (62 days)
  • In 2017, the period from August 31st to November 13th spanned 75 days
  • In 2018, the period from August 30th to November 12th spanned 75 days
  • In 2019, the period from August 29th to November 23th spanned 87 days
  • In 2020, the period from July 15th to November 22nd spanned 131 days
  • And in 2021, the period from July 15th to November 20th spanned 129 days.

The tastiest festival of them all provides you with the opportunity to drink, sample, and appreciate a wide variety of flavors from six continents and beyond. The culinary markets, which number over 30, feature delectable food and beverage innovations from throughout the world. In addition, there will be a variety of live entertainment, demonstrations, Disney character cavalcades, and family fun for people of all ages. Reservations for theme parks are still necessary in advance.
